Coaching can take
place in person at my office, or on the telephone. For certain issues
it can take place at competition venues. Typically, it is not a long
process. During the first meeting, I like to get a good idea about
the riding issues that are important to you, provide you with good
information about how to change things, and then teach you several
simple and effective strategies that can be used immediately. During
this meeting you will get a very good idea about how I think about
things and how I work. My goal is to assist you in learning to change
the things in your riding that aren’t working, to learn how to become
your own source of change and to simply have more fun!
Most riders are
strongly motivated to learn and have spent considerable time in
learning and perfecting their technical and horsemanship skills.
Their commitment and motivation often make the coaching process easier
and shorter.
Coaching is a
collaborative process. Meetings are scheduled and planned in a
partnership. The number and frequency of meetings are designed to fit
your personal preferences, your schedule, and your riding issues.
Some riders have
solved their problems in two to four sessions. Other riders like to
use Performance Coaching in an ongoing way for a period of time to
explore issues more deeply and to have a coach “in the wings” for
feedback as they experiment with change. And other riders like to use
Performance Coaching on a strictly “as needed” basis – what I call
“curbside consults” – that can take place on the phone, in my office
or at shows.
Any rider engaged
in Performance Coaching is also provided with a
comprehensive packet
of written material providing simple and very effective techniques and
strategies that can be used on an ongoing basis to augment and support
the coaching process.
What Happens in Coaching (in a nutshell)
Whether we are meeting on the phone or in person, you will
be learning effective and powerful strategies to quickly change the
things in your riding that aren’t working. You will have the
opportunity to build all the necessary skills of thought and action to
create success. You will be encouraged to tap into your own innate
wisdom to help you reach your riding goals.
The coaching process will be co-creative, flexible,
simple, clear, and direct. It will also be fun!
As a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, I
will teach you how to use the power of your mind to transform
negative, faulty thoughts and beliefs that limit your riding potential
into positive, affirming self-statements and habits of thinking that
create success. I will assist you in learning how to use positive
imagery to your advantage. I will help you learn how to relax your
mind and body for better focus, connection and performance.
As a trained Licensed Clinical Social Worker and
Body-Centered Therapist, I may also use certain clinical
processes and other treatments based on the acupressure system to
assist the learning process and to greatly accelerate change. This
provides a very unique advantage over simply talking about your riding issues and goals.

processes include:

possibility of the deepest and
most lasting change in the shortest
